Traffic Violation: Driver Strips Naked to Escape Arrest in Lagos

A commercial bus driver reportedly stripped naked to escape arrest after he was intercepted by policemen while driving against oncoming traffic in Lagos yesterday.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the incident occurred on Opebi Road, in Ikeja.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos police command posted a report of the incident on its Twitter handle today.

The tweet reads: “Officers on patrol yesterday caught this Danfo with the inscription ‘School Boy’, driving against traffic along Opebi Road. He obviously didn’t learn anything in school. In an attempt to arrest him, he stripped himself naked and escaped.”

The RRS in another tweet said the commercial bus and another commercial tricycle impounded for the same offence had been towed to the state government secretariat in Alausa.

The tweet by RRS.

Two men who were arrested for a similar offence on the same road on Tuesday were ordered to forfeit their vehicles to the state government, when they were arraigned in a Lagos State Traffic Court yesterday.

The Lagos State Traffic Law 2012 stipulates forfeiture of vehicle to the state and one year jail term as penalties for “neglect of traffic direction” for a first offender.
