Tinubu Urges National Value Shift to Combat Economic Sabotage

In a stirring call to action, President Bola Tinubu has stressed the urgent need for Nigerians to adopt a new value system to ensure the nation’s progress.

Addressing a delegation from the National Assembly on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, Tinubu decried the vandalism of rail tracks and theft of electric cables, labeling them as acts of sabotage that hinder national development.

The delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and comprising key legislative leaders, met with Tinubu in Lagos on Monday evening. The President underscored the necessity for a collective change in mindset, urging citizens to abandon rent-seeking behaviors and become more economically productive.

“Good economics at a harsh time is the challenge that we must face. No matter how difficult it is and how challenging it can be, I will not turn my back on Nigeria,” the President said, as he reaffirmed his commitment to the nation’s welfare.

Highlighting the detrimental impact of economic sabotage, the President questioned why individuals engage in such destructive activities, stressing the importance of a value system overhaul.

“Why should we have people removing rail tracks and stealing electric cables? We must embrace the campaign to change our value system,” he said.

Tinubu praised the National Assembly’s leadership for their support, which he credited for some of his administration’s significant achievements. He acknowledged the prevailing poverty and suffering, but remained steadfast in his determination to address these challenges.

“We must find a way to eliminate banditry and terrorism so that farmers can bring out food from the farmland. If you do not have good roads to bring the food to the population, even if you grow the food and you are losing 60-70 percent to damages, you will pay the price,” he said.

Following the meeting, Akpabio expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s leadership during the administration’s first year. He indicated that the National Assembly would focus on amending existing legislation to enhance the nation’s business environment.

After his session with the National Assembly leaders, President Tinubu proceeded to a meeting with the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, continuing his engagements aimed at fostering national unity and development.
