A video shot of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which he claimed to be richer than Osun State and its people has set tongues wagging.

Tinubu, who was recorded during a visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, also said before the first class traditional ruler that the candidate APC is fielding in the forthcoming September 22 gubernatorial election is richer than the state.

Tinubu, who spoke in Yoruba, was apparently replying critics who accused him of appointing Ajele (Sole Administrators) as governor to oversee his interest and monitor his business in Osun.

Seeking support for the APC governorship candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, Tinubu’s words translates thus: “We would have asked Rauf to continue because he is working very well. But, we now look at your son, who is accomplished, Gboyega Oyetola; we are handing him over to you. He’s a reliable person. He may be quiet, but the sense he has… He’s an encyclopedia of finance.

“He will not take a bribe; he will not steal your money. If he is looking for money, he would have stayed back in Lagos. You’re not as rich as he is in Osun.”

Hit by Tinubu’s jab, the Ataoja ironically interjected, saying: “Won o bu wa o. (He didn’t abuse us.)”

Then, Tinubu tactically apologised before he threw another punch.

He said that he would not look the Kabiyesi in the eye and say what he was about to say.

He went on: “They may be saying that Jagaban, Asiwaju is planting a sole administrator in Osun. I ask them: How much do you really have? Kabiyesi, I can’t say this in front of you. You don’t have my wealth.

“I want to do well in Osun and help you; to give your children work; to create jobs here; create opportunities that will lift the state and move it forward.

“We found one of your talented and brilliant children and we say: Go home and do wonders. Do well for your people. We pray that a child should bring wealth home from abroad. That’s the position that God has put you now.”

Tinubu thereafter christened Oyetola “Omokorede”, meaning the child has brought goodies.

He also told the Ataoja: “We trained Rauf (Aregbesola) in Lagos. He didn’t disgrace us. He didn’t tarnish our image. Oyetola that we ask you to wholeheartedly accept is your son. We raised him for you.”
