President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to storm Ogun State on Saturday for a high-profile official visit that will see the commissioning and inspection of a sweeping portfolio of infrastructure projects, signaling a bold acceleration in the state’s economic and developmental trajectory.
The visit, detailed in a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, is expected to spotlight a coordinated investment drive spanning aviation, transportation, agriculture, security, and logistics, positioning Ogun as a strategic growth engine in Nigeria’s southwest.
At the heart of the President’s itinerary is the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, a flagship project designed to transform the state into a major aviation and logistics hub. Within the same complex, Tinubu will also unveil two newly acquired aircraft under the state-owned Gateway Air, formally launching Ogun’s entry into the aviation space through a partnership with ValueJet.
In a move underscoring the airport’s commercial viability, the President will witness a cargo operations demonstration facilitated by SAHCOL, signaling readiness for full-scale freight and logistics services.
The airport commissioning will also feature the rollout of critical support assets, including 1,000 electric bikes under the state’s EV mobility programme, 80 security vehicles to bolster internal safety architecture, and a fleet of agricultural tractors aimed at enhancing food production and supporting farmers across the state.
Beyond aviation, Tinubu will commission the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Road, a strategic corridor linking the new airport to adjoining communities, thereby improving accessibility and unlocking economic opportunities.
Security and trade facilitation will also take center stage, as the President inspects the Nigeria Customs Service Village and commissions a Forward Operating Base (FOB), reinforcing border management and operational efficiency.
The visit will further extend to the Gateway Aviation Village, a complementary infrastructure designed to support the expanding aviation ecosystem around the airport.
In a symbolic gesture, Tinubu will commission the reconstructed Sapade–Ilishan Road—popularly known as the Old Ibadan Road, which will now be renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway, reflecting both its strategic importance and its alignment with national infrastructure priorities.
Rounding off the tour is the inspection of the Sagamu–Benin Concrete Road, a major federal project expected to significantly enhance mobility and ease the movement of goods along one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has positioned these projects as cornerstones of a broader vision to build a modern, economically vibrant, and well-connected state.
