A federal delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu is currently in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following the abduction of teachers and pupils from three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that has escalated into one of the most distressing security crises in the state in recent times.
The delegation is led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, underscoring the urgency and high-level attention now being given to the situation as pressure mounts for a coordinated rescue response.
Other members of the delegation include, the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
The attack in Oriire left two persons dead, including a teacher, while another teacher was killed in captivity and beheaded by the abductors.
The incident involved the abduction of pupils and staff from multiple schools, triggering widespread panic across affected communities.
The crisis has since taken a more harrowing turn with the release of videos by the abductors, including one showing the principal of one of the affected schools pleading for government negotiation.
In the footage, she is seen urging authorities to engage the abductors, warning that conditions in captivity remain dire and that lives are at risk.
A more recent video reportedly shows the principal stating that the abductors have threatened to kill another captive, accusing government security tactics of frustrating ongoing negotiations, a development that has intensified public anxiety over the fate of the victims.
In another emotional moment that has circulated widely, the husband of the abducted principal was seen in tears during Governor Seyi Makinde’s visit to the affected community, directly appealing for urgent intervention to secure her release and rescue the remaining captives.
Makinde had earlier visited the community to meet with residents, families of victims, and local stakeholders as the state government intensifies efforts to coordinate rescue operations alongside security agencies.
The presence of Nuhu Ribadu, who oversees national security coordination, signals that federal intelligence and security structures are now directly engaged, while Gbajabiamila’s involvement reflects immediate presidential oversight of the unfolding crisis.
Ogbomoso, which serves as a key hub linking several rural communities in the area, has become the centre of emergency consultations as both federal and state authorities grapple with the scale and brutality of the attack.
As of press time, there has been no official joint communiqué detailing the outcome of the delegation’s visit or confirming operational steps being taken for the release of the abducted victims.
