President Bola Tinubu has approved the inauguration of a high powered All Progressives Congress committee on strategy, conflict resolution and mobilisation, a move widely seen as part of early groundwork for the 2027 general elections.

The committee is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, with former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, serving as member and secretary.

Among those appointed is former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, who is still facing fraud charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Bello has pleaded not guilty to allegations involving the misappropriation of public funds during his time in office.

His inclusion has already stirred debate within political and civil society circles, given the ongoing prosecution and its potential reputational implications for the ruling party.

Also named is Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently defected to the APC after months of bitter political conflict with his predecessor and President Tinubu’s ally, Nyesom Wike.

The feud, which paralysed governance in Rivers for months, culminated in Fubara’s formal break with the Peoples Democratic Party and realignment with the ruling party, a development that reshaped the state’s political landscape.

Other members of the committee include the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Senator Adamu Aliero, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, are also members.

Party insiders say the committee is expected to manage internal disputes, consolidate recent defections and strengthen the APC’s nationwide mobilisation machinery ahead of future electoral contests.

Observers note that the composition of the panel reflects Tinubu’s effort to balance political loyalty, regional interests and emerging power blocs within the party, even as unresolved legal and factional issues continue to trail some of its leading figures.
