President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah and other soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who were killed during a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the fallen troops as “our unforgettable heroes” and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

“The President has expressed deep sadness over the loss of the brave soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who died in a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State,” the statement read.

President Tinubu also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and the military hierarchy, urging them to remain steadfast in the face of the tragedy.

“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country today in Borno State,” he said.

He assured that the sacrifices of the slain personnel would not be in vain, insisting that their courage continues to strengthen Nigeria’s resolve to defeat terrorism.

“The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever,” the President stated.

Tinubu praised the efforts of troops engaged in sustained counter-insurgency operations, noting that recent enemy actions reflected desperation.

“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation,” he said.

The President also issued a direct message to military leadership and personnel across all theatres of operation, urging them not to be discouraged by the loss.

“I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged. Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism,” he said.

He assured the Armed Forces of continued government backing, particularly in the areas of equipment and welfare support.

“The government will always stand by the Armed Forces, provide more of the equipment needed and ensure the welfare of all who risk their lives for our safety,” Tinubu added.

The President further called on Nigerians and the media to maintain support for the military, warning against narratives that undermine morale or appear to legitimise terrorist actions.

“I urge Nigerians and the media to continue to support our Military in their relentless battle against insurgency and banditry. We should desist from celebrating or condoning the attacks against our troops,” he said.

“These soldiers are our heroes; unforgettable and irreplaceable.”

Tinubu also commiserated with the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the region.

“My condolences also go to the government and people of Borno State. The Federal Government will continue to work with the state government to achieve total victory and lasting peace,” he stated.
