Tinubu Meets King Charles III at Buckingham Palace

President Bola Tinubu was warmly received by His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, underscoring the long-standing and cherished ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The private meeting marks the second encounter between the two leaders, following their initial discussions at the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai last year. The latest meeting was held at the request of King Charles.

The discussions revolved around critical global and regional issues, with a special focus on the pressing challenges posed by climate change. Both President Tinubu and King Charles explored potential areas of cooperation ahead of the COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to take place in Samoa.

Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to addressing climate change while balancing the country’s energy security goals. He emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to implement global sustainability strategies that align with national priorities.

The leaders also shared ideas on innovative climate financing and funding models, expressing mutual interest in strengthening partnerships. They highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role within Africa and the Commonwealth as a key factor in driving collaboration on climate solutions.
