Tinubu Celebrates Tariye Gbadegesin’s Appointment as Climate Investment Funds CEO

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Tariye Gbadegesin on her appointment as the first African Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Climate Investment Funds.

Gbadegesin is the CEO of ARM-Harith Infrastructure, a pan-African infrastructure fund focusing on energy transition and climate-resilient infrastructure. She is also Co-Chair of the Voluntary Carbon Market Integrity Initiative, amongst other leadership roles.

A statement by the State House, Abuja, quoted Tinubu as describing the appointment, which coincides with COP28, as a proud moment for Nigeria.

The president said, “As the world converges for #COP28, I am immensely proud to congratulate Tariye Gbadegesin on her landmark appointment as CEO of the Climate Investment Funds.

“Tariye’s appointment is not just a personal achievement but also a proud moment for Nigeria.

“Her wealth of experience in climate finance and sustainable infrastructure places her at the forefront of the global fight against climate change.

“Nigeria stands firmly behind Tariye, supporting her in this significant role. I am confident that her contributions will leave an indelible mark in the global effort to combat climate change as we move towards a greener, more sustainable future.

“Congratulations, Tariye!”

Gbadegesin, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard Business School, was a non-executive director of Guinness Nigeria Plc.

CIF was established in 2008 to mobilise concessional finance for low-carbon, climate-resilient development at scale and has sourced more than $64 billion in additional financing to date.

In a statement, the organisation said Gbadegesin will begin her role in March 2024.
