Nigerian authorities have announced the arrival of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ankara, the capital of the Republic of Türkiye, to commence a State Visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding strategic cooperation between both countries.

According to a statement from the spokesman for the President, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the presidential aircraft touched down at exactly 9:03 p.m. local time at Ankara Esenboğa Airport, where President Tinubu was received by a Turkish government delegation led by the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin. Also present were Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires in Türkiye, Ambassador Zayyad Abdulsalam, alongside officials of the Nigerian Embassy.

At the President’s hotel, senior members of his delegation, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake; and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), formally welcomed him.

Other top officials on hand included the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, SAN; the Minister of State for Industry, John Enoh; Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson; Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

According to the State House, President Tinubu’s visit is focused on consolidating the long-standing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye, while exploring new areas of collaboration to advance a mutually beneficial partnership.

During the visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to hold high-level talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with discussions expected to cover diplomacy, trade, security, and development cooperation. The programme will also feature the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between both countries, alongside other official engagements.

The visit underscores Nigeria’s renewed push for strategic international partnerships under President Tinubu’s administration, as Ankara hosts talks expected to yield tangible diplomatic and economic gains for both nations.
