President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined Lagosians and Nigerians across the country in celebrating His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu I, the Oba of Lagos, on his 82nd birthday, describing him as a pillar of stability, wisdom, and continuity in the nation’s traditional and civic life.
In a goodwill message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extolled the monarch as a steadfast custodian of Lagos’ rich cultural heritage, whose reign has preserved the dignity of the Iga Idunganran throne while strengthening the connection between the traditional institution and modern governance.
The President commended Oba Akiolu’s enduring commitment to justice, equity, and unity, noting that under his more than two-decade reign, Lagos has continued to thrive as a centre of enterprise, coexistence, and excellence for Nigeria and the African continent.
He further lauded the monarch’s distinguished service to the nation during his years in the Nigeria Police Force, where he rose to senior ranks and embodied the values of discipline and integrity before ascending the throne.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the Oba’s invaluable counsel to successive governments, his wisdom in fostering peace and development, and his unwavering dedication to the welfare of his subjects.
He prayed that Allah continues to grant the respected monarch long life, good health, and renewed strength, noting that Oba Akiolu’s reign remains a source of pride to Lagos and to the entire nation.
