President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
Adeniyi, whose tenure was due to expire on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office until August 2026 to consolidate ongoing reforms within the service.
In a statement issued today by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Tinubu said the extension would enable Adeniyi to complete critical initiatives of the administration, including:
The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service;
The implementation of the National Single Window Project; and
The execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
The President lauded Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” expressing confidence that the extension would further strengthen the NCS in its core mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Adeniyi, a seasoned customs officer and reform advocate, has spearheaded several transformative policies since his appointment, positioning the NCS as a vital player in Nigeria’s economic agenda.
