President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by one year.

The announcement was made today in a statement released by the Presidency and signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Adeniyi’s current tenure was originally set to end on August 31, 2025.

According to the statement, President Tinubu approved the extension to allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives under the current administration.

These initiatives include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and fulfilment of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement said, adding that the President is confident the extension will help the Customs Service strengthen its role in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
