President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Brasília, Brazil, after a four-day state visit that deepened diplomatic and economic ties between Africa’s largest economy and South America’s biggest nation.
The presidential jet took off from Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. (local time) on Wednesday, with senior Brazilian and Nigerian officials present to bid farewell. Among them were Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s envoy to Nigeria. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, also joined the brief departure ceremony, which featured a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.
Tinubu arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, to a red-carpet welcome and full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto. During his engagements, he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and top Brazilian officials. Both leaders witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture—areas central to Nigeria’s development agenda.
The visit, which underscored the historic cultural and economic ties between the two nations, marked a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation.
The President is now en route to Abuja, where he is expected to brief Nigerians on the outcomes of his strategic diplomatic engagement.
