President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trips to South Africa for the G20 Summit and to Angola for the AU-EU Summit, citing the urgent need to respond to a brutal bandit attack on a church in Kwara State, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, and the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba by terrorists in Borno.

In a deeply personal statement, he expressed heartbreak over the kidnapping of the girls and the loss of soldiers, calling on security agencies to act swiftly and decisively.

On Tuesday, gunmen stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, during evening service, killing at least three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor, according to police and eyewitnesses.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq appealed for reinforcements, and Tinubu immediately directed the deployment of more military and police personnel to the troubled community.

Soldiers have since taken control of Eruku, working alongside local vigilantes to track the assailants.

The attack came just days after the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from a girls’ secondary school in Maga, Kebbi State, a situation the president described as deeply painful.

He pledged that security agencies would be relentless in their efforts to bring the girls home alive.

Tinubu also paid tribute to Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers killed in Borno State.

Militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) claimed responsibility for his capture and execution, a claim the military denied, terming it “fake.”

The president called Uba’s death a tragic blow and urged every community to cooperate with the armed forces by sharing intelligence, warning that those who threaten Nigeria’s security “will face the full weight of the Nigerian state.”

He offered his prayers to the bereaved families and emphasised that the military response will be swift, urging unity at a time of rising violent extremism.
