President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the son of acclaimed Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, offering condolences to her and her family.

In a condolence message released by the State House today, President Tinubu described the loss of a child as one of the most devastating forms of grief, noting that no parent is ever prepared for such pain.

Drawing from personal experience, the President said he understood the depth of the family’s sorrow and empathised profoundly with them at this difficult time.

“I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi,” the President stated. “As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.”

President Tinubu praised Adichie as a global literary icon whose works have brought inspiration, joy, and enlightenment to countless readers across the world. He prayed that she and her family would find strength, comfort, and solace in God as they navigate the painful period of mourning.

“My prayers are with the family,” the President added, affirming the nation’s solidarity with them in their time of loss.

The condolence message was signed by President Tinubu in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and dated January 8, 2026.
