President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments in Nigeria’s education sector, naming former Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Professor Modupe Adelabu, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council.
Adelabu, who served as deputy governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014, is a retired professor of educational administration and a former chairman of the National Board for Technical Education.
She is expected to bring her experience in academic leadership and policy to the examination body.
The President also retained the current Registrar of the National Examinations Council, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, signalling continuity in the council’s administration.
In a related development, Tinubu appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education, while renewing the tenure of its Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje, for a second and final term of five years.
Salako, a respected academic and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, is credited with leading institutional reforms and expanding research collaborations during his tenure at the institute.
The President also approved the appointment of Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, following the expiration of the tenure of the pioneer rector.
Binfa, who holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
In addition, the President renewed the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years.
She was first appointed in September 2021.
Under her leadership, the National Library has pursued reforms aimed at modernising its operations, including the development of digital knowledge platforms and efforts to complete its long-delayed headquarters project in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen governance, ensure continuity, and drive ongoing reforms across key education institutions.
The Presidency said it expects the new and returning appointees to consolidate gains, improve institutional efficiency, and support the broader objectives of Nigeria’s education sector reforms.
