The Lagos State Police Command has announced the full enforcement of laws regulating tinted glass on vehicles, warning motorists that they must either obtain the approved permit or remove the tints to avoid arrest.

The exercise, which began on October 2, 2025, follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and aims to enhance public safety, curb criminal activities, and ensure road users comply with traffic laws.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said motorists who are unwilling to apply for the official Tinted Glass Permit on posspap.gov.ng should immediately remove the tints or replace factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as required under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.

“Vehicles with tinted glasses without permits will be impounded, and offenders prosecuted. Those who are not desirous of obtaining the permit have only one option: remove the tints or change the glasses,” Adebisi said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also directed officers to carry out the exercise with professionalism, warning against harassment and extortion.

He stressed that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action, while their supervising officers would also be held accountable.

The Command urged motorists to carry valid documents and cooperate with police during stop-and-search operations, noting that the enforcement is not meant to inconvenience citizens but to improve overall security.

Residents were also encouraged to report unprofessional conduct through the Lagos Police Complaint Response Unit hotlines and social media platforms.
