Third Mainland Bridge Fire Caused by Faulty Underground Cables – Police

The fire incident reported on a section of third mainland bridge in Lagos on Thursday resulted from faulty underground electric cables.

Police said late on Thursday that the fault had been rectified by the relevant authorities and the situation brought under control.

The underground cables that triggered the fire

NewsmakersNG learnt that the fire occured around the University of Lagos waterfront end of the bridge during rush hour traffic around 8pm, caused panic among motorists on the ever-busy bridge.

A tweet by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State police command confirmed that normalcy had been restored in the affected area.

The tweet read: “RRS officers and other emergency respondents are currently at the scene of a fire outbreak that ignited from an underground cable by the median on Third Mainland Bridge, close to UNILAG water front. The situation has been brought under control.”

Several motorists had tweeted about the fire on Thursday night in a bid to alert authorities to the development.
