A seasoned journalist, Chris Anucha, has been appointed the Daily Editor of Imo State-owned Newspaper, The Statesman. He replaces the Acting Editor, Peter Uwa.
His appointment, which took effect from March 1, 2021, is part of the efforts by the management to rebrand and reposition The Statesman to compete favourably with other tabloids in the country.
Chris Ugwumba Anucha holds a Masters degree in Communications, from the University of Port Harcourt and a BSc in Mass Communications, from Lagos State University (LASU). He also holds Higher National Diploma (HND) in Book Publishing, from the first higher institution in Nigeria, Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH).
Anucha also has a National Diploma (ND) in Journalism, from the premier Journalism Institute in Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos, and a Diploma in Law, from the University of Port Harcourt. He has in his kitty, certificates in Parliamentary and Political Reporting, from Commonwealth Journalists Association, Investigative Reporting, from Media Rights Agenda, and International Election Debate, from Commonwealth Foundation.
Anucha joined The Sun Newspaper in 2003, as a pioneer staff and rose through the ranks – Staff Writer (2003), Chief Correspondent (2006), Assistant News Editor (2008), Crime Editor (2011) and South-South Bureau Chief (Regional Editor)- 2012.
With over 24 years in practice, Anucha cut his Journalism teeth in the old Daily Times (SUNDAY TIMES title) in 1993. He later had a break when he became the Adminstrative Officer of Vernok International, representing the company in Ghana between 1995 and 1998. He had worked in the Department of Marketing Client Services of the First Printers (Former printing section of the First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) before he returned to his first love, the Pen profession in 2000.
Other national newspapers in the country where Chris Anucha had left indelible marks are: The Mail, Africa-in-Vogue Magazine, The Post Express and THISDAY. Anucha hails from Aronta, Mbutu, in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. He is married to his beautiful wife, Stella, and they have three children, two boys and a girl.
