The Political Editor of The Nation newspaper, Dr Emmanuel Oladesu and two other journalists escaped death by the whiskers today when they were hit by stray bullets from gangsters at the campaign flag-off of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos.
The two other victims were identified as New Telegraph’s correspondent, Temitope Ogunbanke, and Ibile Television cameraman, Abiodun Yusuf.
NewsmakersNG learnt that they were rushed to a hospital where doctors battled for hours to save their lives.
NewsmakersNG had earlier reported that an APC strongman and leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo was also stabbed at the event and rushed to a hospital.
The thugs wielding guns, machete and other dangerous weapons had a field day before the police could step in and restore calm at the Skypower Ground venue of the rally in Ikeja.
Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and the APC governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party stalwarts were quickly guarded out of the venue as policemen battle to restore peace and order.
