Taskforce Charging 21 Suspected Perpetrators of Lekki Unrest to Court

The Lagos State Taskforce says it will charge 21 suspected  perpetrators of the unrest that happened along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos on Tuesday to court.

This is contained in a statement. by Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, the spokesperson for  the  task force.

He quoted CSP Shola Jejeloye, the chairman of the taskforce, saying that the suspects were arrested during an unrest that occurred as a result of an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle at 12:00pm.

“Twenty one  people suspected to be  connected with the mayhem had been arrested for breach of public peace and they will be charged accordingly,” Jejeloye stated.

He added that the accident occurred at the Second Lekki Toll Gate, along the Chevron-Ajah,-Lekki-Epe Expressway, in Lagos State, leaving the rider of the motorcycle dead while one passenger was injured.

“Eye witnesses at the scene of the incident claimed that the rider drove against traffic before being rammed into by the moving truck.

“That led to hoodlums  and miscreants setting the truck ablaze, causing commotion and transfer of aggression to innocent citizens along that axis.

He said that the intervention of the State Taskforce and other enforcement security agents brought the situation under control and restoring normalcy in the area.

Jejeloye, however, urged motorists to exercise  more patient and be considerate while driving on the roads to avoid accidents and unrests.

“A second’s patience can go a long way in saving a life.

“We should not be too quick or hasty to drag  the right of way when driving because the person you are struggling with may  probably not be in the right frame of mind at that moment.

“Let us be considerate when driving,” he said.

Jejeloye also warned hoodlums who often fed fat on crises to refrain from such or face the full wrath of the law.

The chairman said that the agency had impounded not less than 32 motorcycles for violating the state traffic laws on restriction of Okada on the state highways in that axis.
