In a dramatic turn of events during an FA Cup match between Nottingham Forest and Exeter City, Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi collapsed on the pitch following a collision with Exeter’s goalkeeper, Joe Whitworth.

The incident occurred in the dying moments of the match, with Nottingham Forest leading 2-1.

Awoniyi, who had scored earlier in the game, was contesting a high ball when Whitworth attempted to punch it clear. Inadvertently, Whitworth’s punch struck Awoniyi in the face, causing him to collapse on the field.

Medical staff from both teams rushed to Awoniyi’s aid, providing immediate treatment on the pitch.

The match was halted for approximately ten minutes as paramedics attended to the injured player. Awoniyi was then stretchered off the field, visibly bloodied and in distress.

Following the incident, Nottingham Forest officials confirmed that Awoniyi had suffered a concussion and a broken nose.

Despite the severity of the injuries, reports indicate that he was able to walk back to the changing rooms unaided, though he appeared groggy.

The club has assured fans that Awoniyi is receiving appropriate medical care and will be monitored closely.

Despite the unsettling incident, the match resumed after the delay.

Nottingham Forest managed to secure a 4-2 victory over Exeter City in a penalty shootout, advancing to the next round of the FA Cup.
