A society woman has been linked to the over N15billion in different currencies found hidden inside a house in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The information was exclusively leaked to NewsmakersNG today as operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) returned to House Number 16, Osborne Street to conduct a further search after they received more tips that the multi-storey building has more rooms stashed with money.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the woman has already been quizzed by investigators, who revealed that she is not alone in this.
Investigators say they have uncovered a syndicate fronting for a prominent figure in the security circle.
After counting the money all day yesterday, the EFCC issued a statement putting the final figure at $43.4million, £27.8million, and N23.2million.
The EFCC statement says the monies were found in a four-bedroom apartment on the 7th floor of a residential building at Osborne Towers, 16 Osborne Road, in Ikoyi.
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Lagos today ordered the temporary forfeiture of the over N15 billion found in the house.
Justice Muslim Sule Hassan, in a ruling, ordered that the funds be temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government.
The judge adjourned till May 5, 2017, for anyone interested in the funds to show up before him to show why the money should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
The judge made the forfeiture order shortly after hearing an ex-parte application filed before the court by Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, a counsel to EFCC.
