Seven months after the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu inaugurated a Security Stakeholders Forum at Zone XI Command, covering Osun, Oyo, and Ondo states, its members met today to count the gains of the initiative.
The Zonal Security Stakeholders’ Forum, under the watch of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Leye Oyebade, was inaugurated by the IGP on April 25, 2019, in furtherance to the community policing strategy of his administration in stemming crimes and criminality.
Executives of the Forum with Barr ‘Sola Ojutalayo SAN as the Chairman observed that the security situation in the zone has improved much and security has moved nearer to the public with the upgrade of several police stations to divisional headquarters.
According to AIG Oyebade, the development is in line with the philosophy of the Inspector-General of Police “as captured in our Community Policing Philosophy”.
While presenting a review of the activities of the Forum at the meeting, AIG Oyebade said, “I first and foremost express my hearty gratitude unto God Almighty, who has been our refuge and shield in the course of the year, particularly over the three Commands (Ondo, Osun and Oyo) that formed Zone XI Headquarters.
“Also, my profound appreciation goes to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, NPM, mni, whose unrelenting efforts and strong commitment in leading the Force at combating crimes and criminalities are yielding desired results. I must also commend all our Governors for their support. The Paramount Rulers, the Executive Committee of the Zonal Stakeholders’ Forum and its members are also specially recognized and well appreciated.
“While recognizing that uniformed men often pay irredeemable sacrifices as many of them have experienced sudden and untimely death in the line of duty, a Judge of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, in his submission called on Nigerians to show love to policemen. He critically x-rayed eight factors upon which good governance rests, which are: Rule of law, Transparency, Responsiveness, Consensus Orientation, Equity and Inclusiveness, Effectiveness and Efficiency, Accountability, and Participation.
“Right from the inception of my tenure as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone XI, diverse strategies have been put in place and carefully implemented which have been yielding positive results, even as we are not resting on our oars in our bid to achieve more.
“In order to bring security nearer to the public which is in line with the philosophy of the Inspector-General of Police as captured in our Community Policing Philosophy, quite a number of Police stations have been upgraded to divisional police headquarters.”
The AIG also reiterated the cordial relationship with other Stakeholders/Players in the Administration of Criminal Justice System, including the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice, and Correctional Service within the Zone.
The meeting was well attended by members of the Forum from the three states that formed the Zone; representatives of the three state governors, paramount rulers, local government chairmen, and captains of industries.
