Abdulganiyu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has assumed office as Chairman of Agege Local Government following the resignation of Tunde Azeez.

Rotimi Sulaiman, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aide to Azeez, confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday.

Azeez, who was sworn in on July 26, 2025 alongside Obasa, has reportedly been battling ill health and spent much of his tenure receiving treatment, with his vice chairman overseeing the council’s affairs.

Sulaiman said Azeez stepped down to focus on his recovery, describing it as a “wise and responsible decision”.

He praised Abdulganiyu Obasa as “a visionary young leader” who demonstrated strong leadership during Azeez’s absence.

“Agege is lucky to have both of them,” he added.
