Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported threat to launch a military strike on Nigeria. He described it as “perilous” and a distraction from Nigeria’s real problems – corruption and bad governance.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Sowore cautioned Nigerians against welcoming such rhetoric, warning that America’s past interventions across the world have often left nations worse off.
“The latest threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action in Nigeria, allegedly to protect Christians, may sound appealing to some. Still, history has shown this to be perilous,” he stated.
Sowore argued that no Nigerian, Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, should celebrate or support such a move. Citing the U.S. record in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, he said Washington’s so-called interventions have consistently produced instability, chaos, and prolonged suffering.
“The United States and its allies have a long record of military interventions that leave nations more unstable than before. They failed to secure peace in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or Syria, and they won’t bring salvation to Nigeria through bombs or boots on the ground,” Sowore stated.
The AAC leader emphasized that what Nigeria truly needs is not foreign rescue but accountable, legitimate leadership that protects all citizens and ends the cycles of corruption and violence that have broken the country.
“@realDonaldTrump does not care about Nigerians — not Christians, Muslims, or anyone else. Our deliverance will never come from abroad; it must come from within, through real leadership… and national renewal,” Sowore declared.
Using the hashtag #RevolutionNow, Sowore reiterated his long-standing call for systemic reform and civic awakening in Nigeria, stressing that only a government rooted in justice and equality can guarantee true peace and security, not external military intervention.
