Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has dismissed a viral claim that he authorized the newly launched security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi (Agụnechemba), to arrest women who step out without wearing underwear.
The governor’s reaction follows a trending video on social media, showing a town crier in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, announcing that the state government and its security agency would target women not wearing bras or panties in public.
In a statement on Monday, Soludo described the claim as baseless and a distraction from the government’s primary focus—eradicating crime across Anambra.
“The announcement by the town crier in Abagana, alleging that women without underwear would be arrested, is neither from the state government nor Agụnechemba Security Outfit,” the statement read.
“Such trivial matters have no legal backing and are not the concern of our law enforcement agencies at a time when we are committed to eliminating criminality. While we do not encourage indecent dressing, it is important to clarify this misinformation to prevent any misdirection of security efforts.”
The governor urged the public to disregard the claim and instead support security agencies with credible intelligence on criminal activities.
“If you see something, say something,” he said.
