Smoke Signals: Police Intercept Marijuana Dealer with 17 Bags in Ogun

Policemen responding to a crime alert in Ogun State have nabbed a man transporting 17 bags of Indian hemp from Delta State to Lagos.

According to Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect identified as Daniel Elimuya was arrested on July 28 following information received by officers at Ibafo Division led by SP Abiodun Ayinde.

Elimuya, who resides at 9, General Hospital Street, Iya Naira area of Agbara allegedly had 17 sacks stuffed with Indian hemp in the booth of his car.

Oyeyemi said, “His arrest followed the information received by the policemen of Ibafo Division that a car is on its way coming from Delta State heading to Lagos. The information revealed further that the said car was loaded with illicit drugs.

“On the strength of the information, the DPO Ibafo division, SP Abiodun Ayinde, quickly led his Anti-robbery team to Lagos-Ibadan expressway where they laid an ambush for the said car.

“At about 6:30 pm, the team sighted the Ford car with registration number GGE 782 EX and stopped it. On searching the vehicle, 17 sacks of Indian hemp was discovered. The driver one Daniel Elimuya was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, he confessed to being a long-time Indian hemp distributor and that the one he was arrested with was meant to be delivered to one “Kofo” on Lagos Island.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Bashir Makama has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect and exhibits to State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
