Nigerian singer Adekunle Temitope, popularly known as Small Doctor, has recounted a haunting childhood experience that has stayed with him for decades — the day a classmate who had died the night before appeared in school as if nothing had happened.
In an emotional post on X, the Penalty crooner said the memory of his late friend, Shoetan Olamiposi, came flooding back after he stumbled upon a tweet about childhood friends who passed away young. “Then I remembered Shoetan Olamiposi. R.I.P. Dude came to school in full uniform, unknown to me he had died the night before,” he wrote.
Small Doctor recalled how he had chatted and played with Olamiposi that morning, unaware of the tragedy that had occurred. “We chatted, played and all. Only for his dad to arrive school during break time to inform us all about his demise,” he said.
According to him, the revelation stunned teachers and pupils, who searched the entire school for Olamiposi but found no trace of him. “We searched all school for him, dude was nowhere to be found again. No sickness, nothing,” the singer recounted.
The incident, which took place during his school days in Agege, Lagos, left a lasting emotional scar. “They lived in Iya Rere’s house, Kamoru Alimi Street, off Sebiotimo Street, Idi Mangoro, Agege. I didn’t step foot in that house ever since. I was so scared,” he admitted.
Small Doctor said he later immortalised Olamiposi in one of his songs, Story, released after his breakthrough in the music industry. “I miss him so much that I had to give a shout-out to him after my breakout in one of my tracks titled Story,” he wrote.
He ended his post with a prayer for his late friend’s family. “I hope and pray his family has been holding on tight ever since, because dude was so promising. I pray his shortcomings are forgiven.”
The revelation has since struck a chord with fans, many of whom described the story as “haunting and unforgettable,” praising Small Doctor for keeping his late friend’s memory alive through music and reflection.
