A governorship aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, Mr Sina Kawonise, popularly called SK, says he is coming with massive employment opportunities and a bottom-up approach to governance.
According to him, the bottom-up approach which would ensure participatory governance among other policies and programmes, would be the hallmark of his administration when elected.
SK gave the hint while addressing some members of SDP ward leaders from Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South LGs at Tipper Garage, Asero, in Abeokuta.
The former information Commissioner, who recently indicated interest to contest the coming governorship election in the state, said a major focus in the provision of infrastructural facilities and development would be massive employment opportunities to improve the economic well being of the people.
Kawonise said the people governed must have a sense of belonging and be treated with dignity.
He explained that his innovative Ward Development Council, which would bring even-development closer to the 236 wards in the state, would ensure equality and be administered by the people to cater for the needs of their communities.
Kawonise said the era of government embarking on projects without recourse to the needs of the people and unequal siting of projects would be over, adding, “The people must own the process and determine the needs of their communities.”
Kawonise, who urged the people especially the youth to own the political process by getting involved, highlighted other developmental policies and programmes in ensuring quality education, security, improved healthcare, agricultural support, better welfare and human capital development among others.
Led by Mr Wole Okesanjo, the people of Asero Community expressed their anger at how various governments had neglected them.
They however pledged their support and commitment to SDP and Sina Kawonise, after listening to him, saying, “We are convinced by the many testimonials from people and your words, which showed your interest in the people and a better society.”
The vibrant youth from the 31 wards of Abeokuta North and South LGs, who threw many questions at the aspirant were so impressed by Kawonise’s detailed answers that they quickly formed themselves into committees to start working for the success of the SK project.
