Shock and grief have gripped the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) community following the sudden death of Pastor Ifeoluwa Akindayomi, the youngest son of the church’s founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi.

He died on Sunday morning at his residence within the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.

He was 63.

According to family sources, the tragedy struck shortly after he returned from his routine morning prayer walk inside the Redemption Camp.

A close associate told Church Times that “he had gone for a prayer walk and had just returned home to prepare for Sunday service when he missed his step and fell headlong, hitting his head on a sharp object. He sustained a deep injury and passed out. Before help could reach him, it was too late.”

The incident came as a shock to many who had seen him the previous day at a wedding ceremony, where he served as chairman.

“He looked very healthy and cheerful. Nobody could have imagined that he would die barely 24 hours later,” the source said.

His death occurred 45 years after that of his father and seven months after the passing of his elder brother, Pastor Kolade Akindayomi, who died on May 4 this year.

Until his death, Pastor Ifeoluwa served as Assistant Provincial Pastor of RCCG Ogun Province 5 and also ran a thriving printing business.

Sources close to the family revealed that his wife and children, who live in Canada, had long urged him to relocate abroad. He was said to have recently secured a permanent residence permit and was making plans to join them when the tragedy occurred.

One of his close friends, Pastor Debo Akinyemi, described him as “a humble, quiet and kind man who never flaunted his background or sought attention despite being the founder’s son.”

“He was content with his business and his service to God. The last time I saw him was during the RCCG convention, where he hosted many guests in his home. His sudden death is deeply painful,” Akinyemi said.

Recalling their school days at Molusi College, Ijebu Igbo, Akinyemi described him as “a perfect gentleman, pleasant and unassuming. He truly loved God and never sought position or power in the church. His passing is a great loss to us all.”

He is survived by his wife and children.
