Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria staged another protest in Abuja today.
Today marks the third day the Shi’ite members have been protesting the continued detention of their leader, El-Zakzaky.
The protest nearly turned violent when the protesters clashed with the police around the Federal Secretariat.
Policemen fired gunshots and tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters, while five Shi’ite members were also apprehended.
The confrontation created panic as commuters and motorists fled to avoid being caught in the violence.
The sect members are reportedly regrouping at another location to continue with their protest.
