Security report has revealed that members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shi’ites, are planning to stage violent protests in various parts of Kaduna State tomorrow and Saturday.
Security sources disclosed this to NewsmakersNG in Abuja today.
Clashes between the sect and security forces in Kaduna around 3.30pm today disrupted commercial activities in the metropolis.
Commercial banks, especially those located on the popular Kano road were forced to shut down.
They also clashed with the police close to the Federal Secretariat in Abuja this afternoon.
The sources said the sect members plan to carry out more violent protests in their strongholds of Rigasa, Unguwar Muazu, Tudun Wada, Mando-Afaka and Doka, as well as in some parts of Kaduna metropolis, including Maiburji and Unguwar Liman.
Members of the sect had stormed the National Assembly complex on Tuesday, during which they shot two policemen and also torched three cars and damaged many other vehicles and property.
Forty five suspected members of the sect have so far been arrested in connection with the violent protests.
The protesters are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife from detention.
