The Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, was recognized on Thursday night for his invaluable contributions to the Nigerian energy sector and his service to humanity.
Okunbor received the Award for Exemplary Leadership and Service to Humanity from the Heritage for Life Foundation, a Lagos-based NGO, at a ceremony in Lagos. The award was presented by Tunde Lemo, a Director of the Foundation and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Lemo noted that the award aims to promote moral qualities and attitudes pivotal to the growth of a stable and functional society by recognizing individuals who exhibit these virtues.
An elated Okunbor expressed his gratitude. He said, “I’m pleased at this recognition which calls for greater commitment to the highest standards of leadership and service to humanity. With the support of my colleagues and other stakeholders, I hope to continue to contribute to the development of our country.”
This accolade from the Heritage for Life Foundation is the second honor Okunbor has received in the past month. At the 60th anniversary of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), he was conferred with the title of Diamond Ambassador of Brand Nigeria as part of NIPR’s Diamond Jubilee National Awards.
NIPR President and Chairman of Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, highlighted Okunbor’s exceptional leadership as Chairman of the largest energy company in Nigeria, which has significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic development for over seven decades.
Okunbor’s career in Shell includes roles in Nigeria, the UK, Brunei, and the Netherlands before his appointment as Managing Director of SPDC and Country Chair in 2015. In May, the executive council of the Nigerian Gas Association also recognized Okunbor for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s gas sector.
