Two security guards have been arrested by the police in Ogun over the alleged murder of a traveler in Ibafo, in a case that has once again spotlighted rising concerns over unlawful violence and abuse of authority by private security personnel.
The suspects, identified as Isikilu Dauda, 55, and Rasaki Abbas, were apprehended by detectives attached to the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters following the killing of the victim, simply identified as Promise.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 10, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m., after officers acted on a credible tip-off from a concerned resident.
Police officers who swiftly mobilised to the scene found the victim in critical condition and immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, in a chilling twist, Promise reportedly managed to identify himself and narrate his ordeal while being transported for treatment.
He alleged that he had been attacked and brutally macheted by security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night.
The victim was later confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Preliminary investigations revealed a trail of blood leading directly to one of the suspects, enabling detectives to make a breakthrough in the case. Further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the second suspect, while a manhunt has been launched for other accomplices who remain at large.
The corpse has since been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for autopsy.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, strongly condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.
He assured that all those connected to the crime would be tracked down and brought to justice, reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial actions and unlawful violence.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through its emergency channels, including the Gateway Shield toll-free line.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the conduct of some private security personnel, raising urgent questions about regulation, oversight, and accountability within the sector.
