Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said President Bola Tinubu has endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Sanwo-Olu made the claim in a social media post, describing the development as a strong vote of confidence in Hamzat’s leadership and capacity to sustain the administration’s vision for Lagos.

The post was accompanied by photographs taken at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, showing Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat and key members of the Governance Advisory Council, including Prince Tajudeen Olusi, with the President.

In the images, Tinubu is seen congratulating Hamzat, who was holding what appeared to be his expression of interest and nomination forms.

The visuals have intensified speculation within the Lagos APC that the succession plan for 2027 may already be taking shape, with Hamzat emerging as a leading contender.

Despite the governor’s assertion and the suggestive imagery, there has been no formal statement from the Presidency or the national leadership of the APC confirming an official endorsement of any candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship race.

Hamzat, who has served as deputy governor since 2019, has recently drawn increasing support from influential party figures in Lagos, including members of the Governance Advisory Council, widely regarded as a key decision-making bloc within the state chapter of the APC.

Sanwo-Olu had earlier indicated his preference for Hamzat as his successor, citing his experience and role in governance.
