The Kano State Government has beefed up security at the entrance of the palace of the Emir of Kano following the sacking of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II today.
Moments after the removal of Sanusi, a team of security personnel were sighted at the emir’s palace.
They included men of the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Meanwhile, the state government is expected to appoint a new emir for the Kano Emirate any moment from now.
The Secretary to the State Government, Usman Alhaji, had said in a statement announcing Sanusi’s sack that “a new Emir of Kano will soon be appointed”.
Alhaji also said in the statement that Sanusi was removed to preserve the sanctity of the Kano Emirate.
Sanusi, who was the 14th Emir of Kano under the Fulani dynasty, succeed his granduncle, Emir Ado Bayero, on June 8, 2014.
He was born on July 31, 1961, in Kano to a ruling class Fulani family of the Sullubawa clan.
His father, Aminu Sanusi, was a career diplomat who served as the Nigerian Ambassador to Belgium, China and Canada.
His grandfather, Muhammadu Sanusi I, was the 11th Emir of Kano from 1953 until 1963, when he was deposed by his cousin Sir Ahmadu Bello.
