Saheed Osupa Receives Award in Brazil …Declared Grand Patron of Yoruba Community

After making history as the first Fuji musician to play in Brazil, Saheed Osupa, has been honoured by his fans in the Latin American country as the grand patron of the Yoruba community.

Osupa was awarded the certificate of honour by the África -Brazil Cultural Centre, in São Paulo, Brazil.

According to the President of the Cultural Centre, Osupa merits the award for his contributions to the Yoruba music and also as the first-ever Nigerian Fuji musician to take up the challenge by coming to sing in Brazil.

“We hope this will encourage and open the way for other Fuji musicians in Nigeria to also come and sing to the Brazilian fans,” he said.

Osupa did not only sing but visited several other places where Yoruba people are predominant including the Yoruba mosque where he also prayed with the Yoruba people. He gave inspiring talks and advised the Yoruba people in the diaspora. He pledged to keep the flag flying and promised to be in Brazil again

According to the organizers of the event, Alhaji Kimmy Apena and Mr Wale Orotoye, Osupa has set the pace in Brazil for other Fuji musicians to follow. They expressed their willingness to promote more Fuji singers to share Yoruba people up in Brazil.”

“Nigéria leads, others follow,” said Adriana Bastos, a Brazilian music promoter who was at the event.

Osupa, who performed at the Mary Pop club in Sao Paulo thanked the organizers and his fans for the award and honour given. He promised to continue collaborating towards the growth of the Yoruba people around the globe.
