A driver in Lagos had no idea what to do when his boss sacked him for fighting a colleague at work.
But his idle hands soon became the devil’s playfellow, when Kelvin Ogia made friends with a man at a recreation ground, where he had gone to use the gym.
Although Ogia was not driven with hatred for his boss over the sack, his friend felt he should make the man to be sorry for his action.
And Ogia’s friend, Andrew Warri, told him what to do: Kidnap the boss and make money.
Ogia told Newsmakers how they executed the plan that landed him in police net.
He said: “I was sacked by my ex boss, Mr. Asemo Adeola. He is a caterer. He sacked me after I beat up a colleague. I was jobless and decided to attend a gym. I was in the gym when one man called Andrew Warri approached me to be his friend. We started talking and I told him how I was sacked.
“He advised me to kidnap my ex boss in revenge. I initially declined, but he deceived me that nothing bad would happen to me. I decided to go along with his plans and gave him the boss’s number. We lured him to UNILAG, saying we had a catering job for him.

I bought that gun at Ikotun for N400. We took him to my house and beat him up. Andrew followed him to Zenith Bank and forced him to withdraw N1million. We released him but made away with his Toyota Camry car.

“When he showed up about 4am, we showed him a toy gun. I bought that gun at Ikotun for N400. We took him to my house and beat him up. Andrew followed him to Zenith Bank and forced him to withdraw N1million. We released him but made away with his Toyota Camry car.”

Ogia Telling His Story

Ogia added that the car was taken to Edo State where it was registered with a new number plate. “The car’s registration number was MUS – 663EG, but we took it to Edo State and registered it with a new number GUE- 271LV. I will say it is greed that made me to do this.”
While parading the suspect at the police headquarters, Ikeja, on Monday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, confirmed Ogia’s story. He said: “The suspect made away with a Toyota Camry car belonging to the victim after they kidnapped him and forced him to withdraw one million naira from his bank account.”
Ogia’s accomplice is on the run.
