Rwandan President to Host 14th Security Watch Africa Awards

In partnership with Stellenbosch University, the 14th Security Watch Africa (SWA) Awards, Conference and Exhibition, would hold in Kigali, Rwanda, from February 6 to 9, 2017.
The award nominees include those from private security, governance, academic and industrial sectors for their efforts in changing their respective societies one-step at a time.
The event, which would be hosted by Rwandan President, Mr. Paul Kagame, would be held at Radisson Blu Hotel and Convention Centre, Kigali, Rwanda.
At the inception of the award in 2004, with Abuja, Nigeria, as its first host, the body has not looked back in addressing issues on security in Africa and worldwide.
According to the organisers, the event has grown over the years to incorporate other African, Middle East and the Americas.
From inception in 2004, the maiden event has held successfully in Nigeria, thereafter, Ghana, The Gambia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and Houston, Texas, United States of America.
According to the SWA CEO and International Coordinator, Mr. Patrick Agbambu, the event is expected to bring together African scholars across the world to discuss security and safety issues confronting Africa.
He also noted that the event would celebrate outstanding and excellent performance by people across the continent.
He said, “Today, more than ever before, there is urgent need for practical ideas that will help bring our continent, Africa out of the looming and palpable Armageddon.
“This year’s event, which is in partnership with the Stellenbosch University, South Africa, promises to be credible, classy, glamorous and full of finesse.

“Already, we have confirmed attendance of dignitaries from Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Kenya, The Gambia, Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Namibia and Mozambique.”
The partnership with the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, was affirmed after the signing of a MoU in June 2016.
The Guardian newspapers’ Odita Sunday clinched the nomination of ‘Best Investigative Crime Reporter in West Africa” (PRINT).
According to the organizers, Sunday was nominated in recognition of his intellectual disposition, intuitiveness and incisive write-ups in security information dissemination, which has contributed to the provision of security and safety in Nigeria.
