Russia unleashed its largest-ever aerial attack on Ukraine during the conflict, striking Kyiv and other regions with a barrage of drones and missiles.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, the assault involved over 800 drones and decoys, alongside more than a dozen missiles.
The capital, Kyiv, bore the brunt of the bombardment, including a first-ever direct strike on the Cabinet of Ministers building’s roof and upper floors, a shocking escalation in targeting government centres.
The death toll includes at least four civilians, among them a mother and her baby, who were pulled from the rubble.
Dozens more were injured, including 44 people in Kyiv according to some reports.
Ukraine’s air defence systems intercepted the majority of the assault, taking down 747 drones and four missiles. The scale of this defence effort underscores the severity and magnitude of the offensive.
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, labeled the assault a deliberate crime and a tragic prolongation of the war, calling for stronger international sanctions and enhanced air defense support.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko echoed the sentiment, saying “lost lives cannot be returned” and demanding both rebuilding and greater global action.
This unprecedented aerial campaign marks a dramatic shift in Russia’s tactics, directly challenging Ukrainian resilience and the international community’s willingness to respond.
