RULAAC Presents Report on Police Stakeholders Partnership Forum

By Patience Ogbo/

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), in collaboration with the Anambra State Police Command, has launched a report meant to strengthen citizens’ awareness of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2010.

RULAAC, in collaboration with the police authorities and support from the Open Society Justice Initiative, fostered the Police Stakeholders Partnership Forum PSPF in Anambra as a platform for monitoring compliance by the NPF with the ACJL.

The Executive Director of RULAAC, Mr Okechukwu Nwanguma, while presenting the report to journalists in Lagos said, “We want citizens to know their rights. With our platform, people can report any abuse for prompt discussion and resolution. The investigation has shown that Anambra State is a place where police officers like to be deployed to. Some of them feed on our people due to our impatience. As a result, the Anambra State Police Command in collaboration with the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre set up the Police Stakeholders Partnership Forum (PSPF) to monitor police compliance with the State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2010.”

Nwanguma said that in order to record cases of abuse by law enforcement officials, a Case Management Register (CMR) was provided.

He said, “We designed a Case Management Register (CMS) into which cases and complaints are entered. The CMR provides an opportunity to monitor the progress of cases and complaints. To facilitate this process, we engaged the services of a documentation officer who receives reports of police abuses and challenges from the field and steps taken by PSPF and other relevant institutions of states to address them. Three major cases of human rights violation have been documented so far and are being tracked.”

It can be recalled that the PSPF was inaugurated and officially launched by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, in Awka on November 27, 2019.
