The Rotary Club of Epe Metropolitan (RCEP) is planning to facilitate medical missions from the United States to the town and its environs.
President of the club, Otunba Ayo Abimbola disclosed this while presenting his vision for the 2019 – 2020 year.
Otunba Abimbola said disease prevention and treatment would be one of the six areas of focus of his presidency, adding that he intended to also marry this focus with maternal and child health.
In line with this focus, he said the Rotary Club of Epe Metropolitan planned to effectively engage some experienced Rotary International partner NGOs from the United States to organize medical missions to Epe and environs at different intervals for at least three times before the end of the 2019-2020 in June next year.
He said this effort could be co-sponsored in partnership with either Lagos State Health Service Commission through Epe General Hospital or any other capable medical/healthcare facilities in and around the Lekki-Ibeju-Epe axis.
His words: “As a Public Health Consultant myself, I’m very passionate about this prospect that is also envisaged to make provisions for and deploy distribution of both pharmaceutical and women’s health aides to Epe populace at organized public events to be agreed upon and determined by the Club.
“On the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) focus, I want to identify key areas in Epe environs with the most need for Public Toilets preferably nearby a market or motor park. I’m yet to actually find any place in Epe with a public toilet. Perhaps there is but I don’t know of any. So this I believe is a great Project to consider.
“If we can build even just one public toilet and sink a borehole not directly near the public toilet but adjacent to it, I believe that would be a great achievement.
“For Rotary Club of Epe Metropolitan, this will help us build goodwill and better friendships with the public simply because access to the good working public toilet will directly impact the lives of Epe grassroots people and visitors alike who will clearly see that RCEM is doing something laudable in Epe Township.
“On Economic and Community Development focus, I want to identify qualified youths in Epe who have already acquired valuable vocational skills or undergoing some type of vocational training, but may be unable to establish their businesses due to financial constraints.
“Such youths who are economically disadvantaged because of low family financial status would thus be empowered, and by default, they also will be enabled to help their immediate/extended families.
“And last but not the least, on the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution focus, I intend to look into this hot-button focus only on a case-by-case basis. This is because I personally don’t believe we can or should keep up with all the Jones’ of feuding factions in Epe.
“But as a Club, we will look into such situations whenever an incidence requiring us to broker peace in helping to resolve potential conflicts in Epe Township and environs arise.”
