Rotary Club Installs Muyiwa Akintunde as President

Public Relations consultant and online media publisher, Rotarian Muyiwa Akintunde, officially assumed office last Friday as the President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central.

As the Lead Consultant/CEO of Leap Communications and Publisher of Breezy News, Akintunde is the fourth member to serve as President of the club. He succeeded Rotarian Olayinka Patunola-Ajayi, a reputable Estate Surveyor and Valuer, and retired Permanent Secretary with the Lagos State Government, who held the position from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.

To kick off his term, the club will host a series of fund-raising activities starting on Friday, 12 July 2024, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, beginning at 6:30 PM.

Rotarian Muyiwa Akintunde being decorated by his two immediate predecessors, Rotarian Olayinka Patunola-Ajayi (second right) and Rotarian Adebukunola Soile-Balogun.

In his inaugural address, Akintunde expressed his commitment to the service of the club and the communities that Rotary supports through its intervention programs. He emphasized his adherence to the laws of the club and Rotary International and pledged to promote stakeholder engagement and participation.

One of his first actions as president was the formation of a Byelaws committee, led by Rotarian Idowu Olawoyin, who has served in various critical roles within the club. Akintunde tasked the committee with completing its work before the club’s next election in the first week of November.

The new officers of the club for the 2024-25 Rotary year (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025) are:

– Busayo Akomolafe (Vice President)
– Tolulope Ajimotokan (President-Elect)

– Kamal Azeez Adekunle (Vocational Service Chair)

All past presidents of the club are also on the board, including Charter President Deji Shonuga, Adebukunola Soile-Balogun, and Patunola-Ajayi.

During the event, the outgoing President presented a report on the club’s achievements during the 2023/24 Rotary year and honored members who significantly contributed to the club’s goals with awards and gifts.

Notable attendees included the club’s Assistant Governor, Rotarian Ibraheem Adebayo, and the 2022-23 president, Soile-Balogun.

Chartered by Rotary International on 23 March 2021, the Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central, despite being only two years old, emerged as the third-best club in the Rotary International District 9110 during Soile-Balogun’s presidency, out of about 140 clubs in Lagos and Ogun States. The club also won awards for Best in Club Administration and Best in Youth Service.

Following the recent division of RI 9110 into two districts, the Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa Central now belongs to RI District 9112, with Rotarian Femi Adenekan serving as the pioneer District Governor.
