No fewer than 12 persons have been reportedly killed by suspected armed robbers in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the attack occurred at about 5 pm today.
The gunmen reportedly attacked the Unity Bank and Keystone Bank branches in the town.
They gang had earlier stormed a police station close to the banks in a bid to demobilise the policemen, NewsmakersNG learnt.
A policeman and two detainees were reportedly shot dead at the police station, while three other persons outside the station were killed by the robbers.
It was learnt that the official vehicle of a newly posted area commander was also set ablaze by the robbers.
The robbers later made their way to the banks, where they shot dead four other persons.
The police were yet to make an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
