A man who devised a dead easy way to conceal and smuggle rice through the borders has landed in trouble.
Moses Degbogbahun, according to Customs Officers, packaged bags of rice as a corpse and moved the package in an ambulance along the Seme Border route.
But, like the bucket that goes to the well every day, the bottom fell out of the innovation when officers noticed the frequency of the Volvo ambulance marked DV 74 EKY along the route.
“The frequency of the Volvo ambulance with a corpse along the international route became alarming, so we had to stop it for proper examination along Aradagu Tollgate Road. We discovered that it was carrying 11 bags of imported rice carefully arranged and wrapped as a corpse,” said a mobile patrol team leader, Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) M. Ozah.
After the discovery and arrest of the suspect, the Comptroller, Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, Mr Victor Dimka, warned that no amount of smuggling antics along Seme border route would go undetected by his men on patrol.
“The suspect is still undergoing investigation for possible prosecution,” said Customs spokesman, Mr Selechang Taupyen.
