From September 7th to 23rd, police authorities will commence a nationwide registration and capturing of all retired officers for them to benefit from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) along with their spouses.

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) DCP Frank Mba, the move followed the approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria for the enrolment of retired police officers on the NHIS.

Mba stated that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu “has directed the nationwide registration and capturing of all retired officers with effect from 7th September to 23rd September, 2020. With this development, all retired police officers, irrespective of their rank on retirement, along with a spouse, will have full access to all NHIS services and benefits covered by the Police Health Maintenance Organization (Police-HMO) Code-073”.

Mba disclosed that the exercise, which shall be in three batches, would take place at the various Police Area Commands in the country.

All retired police officers are required to visit any Police Area Command closest to them with the following basic requirements: National Identity Number (compulsory), Letter of Retirement, and Retiree’s I.D Card.

The nationwide registration/capturing exercise will hold in the Northwest states from September 7 to September 9, covering Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara; the Northeast states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe; the North-Central states “B”, comprising of the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa.

From September 14 to 16, it will hold in the Southwest states of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo; the North-Central States “A” – Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger and Plateau, and from September 21 to 23, it will hold in the South-South States of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa; the South-East States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

Mba stated that the IGP expressed his unfettered appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for extending the NHIS to retired Police officers.

He said that the development would help address the age-long quest for affordable healthcare services for Police retirees and enjoined the senior citizens to take optimum advantage of the Scheme.
