ABEOKUTA – Retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice George Oladeinde Shoremi, has accepted the role of Father of the Day at the 8th anniversary lecture of Penpushing Media, adding another distinguished name to the list of eminent personalities expected at the event.
The anniversary lecture is scheduled to hold on July 23, 2026, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, and will bring together leading voices from the legal, media, governance and civil society sectors.
Chairperson of the anniversary lecture, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, disclosed Shoremi’s acceptance while briefing journalists. She also confirmed that the Chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, Ambassador (Dr.) Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, who will serve as Mother of the Day, has equally confirmed her attendance.
According to Akiyode-Afolabi, this year’s lecture is themed “Restoring Electoral Integrity: The Path to Good Governance and Public Accountability.”
Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, will deliver the keynote lecture, while four respected intellectuals will serve as panellists to enrich discussions on strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Justice Shoremi commended the editorial board and planning committee of Penpushing Media for sustaining the annual lecture series, describing the initiative as a valuable contribution to the growth of responsible journalism and informed public discourse.
A highly respected figure in Nigeria’s legal community, Shoremi enjoyed a distinguished judicial career spanning several decades, earning widespread recognition for his contributions to the administration of justice before retiring from the Court of Appeal.
Beyond the courtroom, he is also celebrated as an accomplished sportsman. An enthusiastic squash player for more than five decades, Shoremi remains active in the sport and is reputed to have played over 100 squash matches with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Now resident in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the retired jurist also serves as Chairman of the Registered Trustees of the Abeokuta Sports Club, where he continues to promote sports development and community engagement.
Penpushing Media’s annual anniversary lecture has become one of the leading intellectual platforms in Ogun State, attracting prominent policymakers, legal experts, academics, media practitioners and civil society leaders to discuss critical national issues. Organisers say this year’s focus on electoral integrity is expected to generate practical recommendations for strengthening democracy, accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.
