Eyewitnesses say a bloody clash has broken out between Hausa and Igbo traders at the popular Wuse market Abuja.

The two groups are reportedly attacking themselves with stones and other weapons that were handy

The fracas resulted from an earlier attempt today by traders in a section of the market to lynch youth rights activist and music artiste, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charley Boy.

Charley Boy was leading the ‘resume or resign’ protest against President Muhammadu Buhari, which began last week, when the protesters were attacked by some traders at market.

They reportedly escaped unhurt but were forced to abandon a salon car at the scene. The damaged vehicle was later driven away by a detachment of anti-riot policemen drafted to the scene.

Police are also having a hard time bringing the situation under control. They have however managed to create a barrier between the two groups.

The same protest came under police attack last week during which Charley Boy fainted after inhaling tear gas used to disperse the protesters. A number of protesters were also injured in the process.

Police hinged their action on the excuse that the protest had been hijacked by hoodlums, who were planning to use it to wreak havoc.

The protest, which was organised under slogans such as #resumeorresign, #ourmumudondo is aimed at forcing Buhari, who has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in London in the last three months, to resign his position as president.
